Sometimes students of African-American heritage seek to attend an historically and/or predominantly black college after high school. Factors in this decision include:
- smaller class sizes
- lower college costs
- challenging educational opportunities
- close student/teacher relationships
- availablity of African-American role models and mentors
- availability of classes that incorporate Afrocentric themes
- ability to learn in an environment in which the African-American student is the center of attention

The Black Collegian: In addition to career planning/job search information, there are contributions by leading African-American writers, information on college life, and news of what's happening on college campuses today.
Black Excel: This site is a resource for all, especially African-American families and first generation college students.
Quality Education for Minorities (QEM): The QEM Network is a national, non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C. dedicated to improving the education of African-Americans, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans, and Puerto Ricans.
