Programs
Volunteer Orientation
Held in September to familiarize volunteers with library layout, activities, and procedures.
Fall Book Fair
Successful fundraiser, as well as all-around spirited community event. Held in cooperation with The Concord Bookshop. Local authors and illustrators participate, and sign and illustrate their books. Teachers, administrators, and friends read favorite stories. 'Birthday Book' Table available for gift book donations.
Feast on Fiction
In November, just before the Thanksgiving holiday, all classes sample our new fiction books at tables set with placemats, menus, and background music. 'Orders' are taken for following week's circulation.
Feast on Nonfiction
Held in February, similar to above showcasing new nonfiction offerings.
'Put a Poem in Your Pocket' Week
Held during Poetry Month in April. Library shelves highlight and display poetry books as students are encouraged to sample these offerings, and make a poem their own. Alcott students choose a poem to record on colorful pocket paper, and ask each other if they have a poem in their pocket. Once their poem is read or recited, autographs are collected to serve as happy reminders of poetry-filled days!
Public Poems
Held during Poetry Month in April. A student from each grade level shares a poem over the school intercom at the start of the school day, with a different grade level represented each morning.
Paperback Book Swap
Students who donate a gently used paperback book appropriate for grades K-5 may help themselves to another from the collection. "Give a book, get a book!" A fun end of the year exchange following the close of library checkouts.
