GClef Notes

At the Alcott School, students receive a well-rounded background in Music so they can become functional, literate musicians. Through the discipline which music offers, students are able to develop a clear progression and appreciation for the art as a subject and also for its aesthetic quality.

As part of the core curriculum, children in Grades 1-5 have Music once a week for 45 minutes, while Kindergarten students have Music once a week for 30 minutes.

Activities for all grades include Singing, Listening, Moving, Music Reading and Writing, Playing Instruments, as well as learning about the Grand Staff and Composers. The musical concepts that are studied are Melody, Rhythm, Harmony, Form, Expression, Tone Color / Timbre.
