Math Expectations – Grade 6- Mrs. Baker
This will be an exciting year for you in math! We will be spending our time thinking and working with numbers, patterns, and shapes, learning how to solve problems, and describing our solutions. We will also learn how to best organize our work and solidify our math skills. We are going to have a great year!
Goals:
- Become good problem solvers.
- Become experts at 6th grade math skills.
- Be organized and have fun!
Supplies:
- A 2 pocket folder for homework and handouts.
- Two spiral notebooks (one for the first half of the year, one for the second half of the year) for notes and classwork.
- A PENCIL!!!!
Classwork:
- Come prepared for class – homework, pencil, notebook, 2 pocket folder, and assignment book.
- Participate – classroom activities and discussions.
- Collaborate – Work productively with your classmates and use time well.
- Smile – A positive attitude will help with your success!
- Ask questions!!!
Homework:
1. Homework will be collected daily and saved in class for the unit.
2. If you are absent you may make up the assignment.
3. Show your work! You will not get credit if no work is shown.
4. Work for 30 minutes.
Tests, quizzes, and projects:
- There will be 5-9 grades per term, numerical average.
- Be aware of opportunities for corrections and retakes. (First Term)
- Check in periodically on your grade to know how you are doing.
Conduct:
- Follow directions in class.
- Stay on task.
- Respect yourself and others – don’t create distractions.
Grades:
- Quizzes, Tests, and Projects – Numerical Average
- Homework and Classwork (check, check minus, or check plus each day.)
- Conduct
*Tips for good grades: Each student will receive 3 grades, one for each of the above categories. As long as you are working for 30 minutes each night, bringing in good quality homework to class, participating in class, and being respectful you should do well for the homework/classwork and conduct grades. Be organized and disciplined in your work!
Extra Help:
- We encourage collaboration, so check with a friend for help first.
