Freshman English
NONFICTION:
Independent Reading Project
Choosing a book: You should choose a work of nonfiction, which may include autobiography, memoir, biography, history, travel, science, sports and other nonfiction books. My expectation is that the book you choose be at least 200 pages long and at or above your reading level. I also hope you choose a book you will like! Check bestseller lists; check with your friends or parents; read some book reviews; ask the librarians; use the lists and links!
You must read a book that you have not read before and that you have not studied in a previous English class. You will not get credit (i.e. you will receive a zero) for the assignment, if I find out you have repeated a book. If you are currently reading a nonfiction book on your own, we should talk. Keep in mind that you will be asked to get your parent(s) or guardian(s) approval for the book that you choose.
MAKING AN OUTSIDE CONNECTION : You will find a song, poem, news article, or watch a film that relates to, enhances, illuminates, or connects to the book that you are reading. You should photocopy the piece or fill out the film review sheet if watching a movie. In addition, you will need to write a half page to a page about the relationship between the book and your related connection.
