Come join us as he covers the components of successful behavior management.
This workshop will:
- look at children’s perceptions of what we do,
- explore the purposes of their behaviors,
- discuss ways to change difficult or stubborn behavior patterns,
- cover techniques for setting limits and shaping behaviors, techniques to avoid, and specific categories of behavior, including:
- self-control,
- social skills and
- separation problems.
You will leave with tools to use the next day and the confidence to try them out!
There will be time for questions and answers!

For Parents of Young Children:
"Raising Your Challenging Child"
with Patricia Marquis, LicSW, Family Therapist and
Parent Educator
This 8-week series is for parents who often feel challenged by their 2-5 year-old child who is bright, interested in many things and also often uncooperative, who may have a hard time with basic activities such as mealtime and dressing. Challenging children can have a very difficult time transitioning from one activity to another, may struggle to develop appropriate interactions with peers, and may resist their parents' efforts to calm them during stressful episodes.
In this group, parents will learn about the role of temperament in their parent-child interactions, and acquire tools to anticipate problems and make appropriate adaptations, easing day-to-day friction.
WHEN: 8 Mondays: Oct. 27, Nov. 3, 10, 17, 26, Dec. 1, 8, 15, 2008

"How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk"

This 5-part video-based series will offer innovative ways to solve such common problems as: How to listen to and understand your child's concerns, how to have cooperation in your family without nagging, how to find alternatives to punishment, and how to help your child attain a positive self-image. (For parents of children 2-9 years-old.)

"Guiding Good Choices" (For parents of 5th-8th graders)
with Kathy Bowen, Concord P.S. K-12 Health Coordinator and Certified Empowerment Coach
"Social pressures! How will my child respond?!?"
At the end of this 4-part workshop, parents will feel clearer abaout the teenage social environment and their values in relation to it. They will gain confidence in communicating their values to their children to help them make good choices and avoid harmful behavior. Presentations, group discussions and role play are incorporated into this 4 week series as well as a follow-up phone session with facilitator.

The Center for Parents and Teachers was founded in 1987 and is a Concord Carlisle Community Chest-funded organization.
The Center also receives support from the CCHS Parents Association, Concord Middle School PTG, CPS Elementary PTGs, the Community Partnership for Children, the Children’s Trust Fund, Emerson Hospital, Friends of the Gleason Public Library, Lahey Clinic CHNA15, The Sudbury Foundation, Middlesex Savings Bank, the Colonial Inn, the Toy Shop of Concord, the Concord Bookshop, Helen's Restaurant, and individual donations.
