SIXTH GRADE
Our Year in Computer Class

Sixth grade students take computer class once a week throughout the school year. During class students learn to use and apply a variety of software applications. Students complete activities for computer class as well as for assignments in other core curriculum areas. The computer curriculum is an integrated program that supports and promotes the infusion of technology into other middle school courses including Art, English, math, social studies, science and world languages.

Computer lessons and units are designed to introduce students to a networked computer environment, enable students to understand and identify various computer components and provide basic and intermediate skills in the following:

  • Safe and effective Internet use
  • Word processing, spreadsheets and graphics
  • Keyboarding
  • Presentation and publishing software that incorporates multimedia and the Internet.
  • Computer terminology and general concepts of hardware, software, and connectivity.
  • Past projects include: About Me Surveys, Formal Letters, Web Review Newsletters, Spreadsheet Conslutants and Creating Web Pages with HTML.

Our computer curriculum enables all students to select the appropriate tool for the academic task they wish to accomplish. Through our lessons and projects, students develop problem solving approaches to their work with technology.
