Profiles

John Edward Hanley 1948

"Clinker" Hanley was a rare 14 letter man during his four years at Concord High. Believe
it or not, he also found time to play intramural sports in his junior year! No wonder he was
voted Most Athletic in his class.

Like fellow Hall of Famers Muzzy Muscato and George Fenton, John combined size with
speed to overwhelm his opponents. He was a great runner on football teams that didn't
lose a game after his Freshman year, a guard in basketball, and a strong hitting first
baseman. Of course he also found time to run track. His favorite coaches at CCHS were
John O'Connell, Bernie Megin, and Benny Friedman.

Upon graduating from high school, John served in the Navy before attending Brandeis
University on a football scholarship. He played four years offootball there, and hi s two
years of baseball were enough to get him a serious look from pro baseball scouts. He was
also a fine Dean's List student at Brandeis. After college he played baseball for the town
team while running his Town Taxi and Hanley Limosine businesses. His favorite
customers were the Red Sox and Patriots who hired him to transport the luggage of
visiting teams - and always made sure he had good tickets for the games!

John is survived by his wife Carol, three sons, Stephen, David, and Stuart, two daughters,
Caroline and Elizabeth, and two grandchildren
