Complementing her natural athletic ability with mental toughness, Jackie was a four year
starter in her three sports, and well known around town as a formidable competitor. She
appreciated the support of her mother, who drove her teams to games, and her coach,
Mim Clark, for her efforts in opening doors for women in athletics.
A great competitor herself; Miss Clark once removed Jackie from her offensive forward
position with one minute left in a close field hockey game with Lincoln Sudbury. With L- S
preparing to execute a crucial penalty comer play, Jackie was told to "run in there and
play fullback. I don't care what you do Jackie, or how you do it, but stop the shot on
goal !" She did and CCHS won the game by a point.
One of Jackie's proudest moments came when she was presented with an athletic
scholarship to the University ofBridgeport at her CCHS graduation. She went on to
captain the field hockey and basketball teams there, coach both sports, and was later
named to the Bridgeport Athletic Hall of Fame.
Jackie now lives in Acton and is the Director ofHealth Management, Sports and Athletics
at Mount Ida College. She holds a Masters degree and a Doctors degree from the
University ofNorth Carolina and Springfield College.
