I have high expectations for both your achievement and behavior over the course of the upcoming school year. The purpose of these Class Expectations is to establish an enjoyable, productive, and safe learning environment for everyone. You are encouraged to volunteer your answers, thoughts, and ideas and have every right to expect that they will be respected. Likewise, you are expected to treat your classmates' contributions with respect. Any actions that detract from these goals can not be tolerated.
Please read these Class Expectations carefully with your parent/guardian and then have both of you sign them on the back.
CLASS PREPARATION
You will bring your notebook, textbook, and a pen or pencil to class everyday.
- You will be ON TIME. (This means you will be sitting at your desk WHEN THE BELL RINGS.)
- Any homework or assignments due that day should be placed in the class folder BEFORE THE BELL RINGS!
TARDINESS
Students are expected to arrive to class on time and be prepared to participate. If you arrive late to class, please sign the late book. Students who are late to class a second time, without a pass, will be assigned a detention with me for a minimum of 20 minutes. Further information can be found in the CCHS Handbook for Students and Parents.
TEXT
The text used for this course is Earth Science, by Spaulding and Namowitz. This text, as well as all materials that are given to you during the year, is being loaned to you. All materials are expected to be kept in good condition. If materials are lost or returned damaged you will be assessed a replacement fee. The replacement fee for Earth Science is $80.00.
BOOK RETURN / INCOMPLETE POLICY
At the end of the school year you are expected to return your book in the same condition as you received it. If you do not return a book (if, for example, you have lost it) you must pay the book replacement cost of $80.00. If you neither return the textbook nor pay the $80.00 replacement fee you will receive an incomplete in the class.
LIBRARY PASSES
I will only issue library passes on a limited basis. They will be given to accomplish specific tasks. It must be demonstrated that these tasks were completed.
FOOD IN CLASSROOM
The eating of food in the classroom will be very limited. In the past students have failed to adequately clean up after themselves and we have been inundated with ants and mice. There will be absolutely no food or drink allowed in class on days when we are using the computers or working on a lab.
OTHER ITEMS IN CLASS
At any given time you should only have out your notebook and any materials we are using in class. Any items that are out and are not class related (graphing calculators, Walkmans, pagers, cell phones, materials for other classes, etc.) will be confiscated and returned the next time the class meets .
HOMEWORK
Homework will be assigned every night (weekends are fair game) and is due at the BEGINNING of class. If you miss two assignments, you MUST stay after school THE SAME DAY you miss the second assignment, and every subsequent day that you are missing another assignment. (This is CCHS policy.)
CLASS WEB-SITE
Information, assignment, and research links will be posted on the class web-site, found at MrYuhas.COM. The Internet/E-mail Agreement hand-out provides more detail about the class web-site.
EXTRA HELP
I am available for extra help before school (7:00-7:30) and after school (2:05-2:30) everyday in room S-16. If you plan on coming in, please let me know ahead of time so that I do not leave the room to do copying or run an errand. We can also get together by appointment at some mutually agreeable time.
SUBSTITUTES
When I am absent from class I expect that you will conduct yourself in the same manner as I expect you to behave when I am here. Any student whose name is brought to my attention for misbehavior with a substitute will be assigned a three hour office detention.
MAKE-UP POLICY
Students missing class due to unexcused absences will not be extended the privilege to hand in work late and will be given a zero for all work done on that day or due on that day. (This includes tests.) Any unexcused absence will exclude you from co-curricular activities for that day and will result in a three hour office detention.
Students missing class with excused absences are responsible for finding out what they missed , obtaining notes, and making up work. Homework and lab reports are due the class following the excused absence, after which they will be marked late. All work must be made up within a week, or you will receive a zero for that assignment.
Missed tests must be made up within one week of your return. It is your responsibility to arrange a time to take the test. After one week tests may not be made up and you will be assigned a zero for a grade.
LATE WORK
Homework and lab reports are due at the beginning of each class, after which they will be deemed late. Lab reports will be marked down one point (10%) for each day that they are late, and will only be accepted until the test on that subject has been taken . Students who miss two assignments will need to stay after school the day they miss the second assignment and every subsequent day that they miss an assignment. (NOTE: School policy is that you stay after school THAT DAY. You do not, as in other cases, have the option to stay after school the next day instead.)
Term projects will be marked down 10% for each day they are late.
